The dolphin is among the most beloved marine mammals; everyone would like to be able to observe it up close at least once in their lives, but few know about its difficult relationship with the fishing world.
It is thanks to the European Life Delfi project, coordinated by Irbim-CNR and in which Legambiente is also a partner, that researchers, activists and managers of marine protected areas are working on reducing the phenomenon of interactions between dolphins and professional fishing. How? By deploying DiD, the smart acoustic deterrents, and alternative, environmentally friendly fishing gear. Life Delphi partners, active for more than two years, have been working in Italian seas.
The project also involves the coasts of Croatia washed by the Adriatic Sea.
